The importance of good housing to improve the lives of care leavers

Secure, safe and stable accommodation is an essential building block for success and achievement, and has a direct impact on emotional health and wellbeing. It is particularly vital for looked after young people and care leavers who have in many cases experienced instability, transience and uncertainty in their lives.

Leaving care too early presents real challenges for looked after young people. The full and meaningful implementation of 'Staying Put' and continuing care for all looked after young people should be a primary focus for all corporate parents.

Our Inform briefing provides an overview of information, policy and legislation and outlines the housing and accommodation options that will improve outcomes for care leavers.
