A response to the Children (Equal Protection from Assault) (Scotland) Bill proposed by John Finnie MSP, which aims to remove the legal defence of 'justifiable assault' against children from Scots law.
We fully support the Bill, which will better align our laws with societal thinking and practice, children's rights, and the best evidence of the harmful impact of physical punishment on child development and family relationships.
