The programme is school-based and aimed at young people who are ‘looked after’ by the local authority or have previously been looked after.
It was created to realise a vision for looked after young people in Glasgow secondary schools, which is that they can achieve significantly more in education as a result of having the support of a volunteer adult mentor.
The programme operates in six Glasgow secondary schools and there are plans to expand it to include 10 schools with 250 mentoring relationships.
The Mentoring Programme involves four partners: the MCR Charitable Foundation; Glasgow City Council; the University of Strathclyde; and CELCIS.
