Get Write In! Winners' Event 2017GetWriteIn- Logo 300x300 border.jpg

A creative writing competition for all school-aged children who are looked after or have care experience.

During the Edinburgh Book Festival, we hosted the winners' event for our first ever Get Write In! writing competition for looked after children.

The event involved readings by Scotland's national poet, Jackie Kay, and the prizes were handed out by Mark McDonald, Scotland's Minister for Children and Early Years during the ceremony at Dynamic Earth.

But that was not all! We were also joined by the Super Power Agency, a creative group who provided the entertainment in the form of super heroes who encouraged the young people's writing talent. It was a truly special event!

And the winners are...

Junior Winner

Jospeh Ness, Dumb

"This random happening changed by life. I could have died, in fact death was only an inch away. Now no-one listens. No-one hears. No-one can hear me. They said the rollercoaster would be fun. NO. A big mistake to make."

Senior Winner

William Cathie,  A New Life – A Fork in the Road

"A very specific turning point for me would be gaining a new member of our tribe and by that, I mean a nephew to our family. Since this angel from heaven soared into my life, it hasn't been the same ever since!"

Thank you to...

All our talented runners up and shortlisted entrants, and our amazing judges!

Watch events as they unfold!

We heard from the judging panel, the Minister and Jackie Kay who all gave personal reflections on why creative writing is an important activity for any child. You can watch the full ceremony.

And how was it for you?

We asked the young people and judges to share their views on the event.
