Debating Disclosure

Wednesday 25 April 2018

Improving life chances through awareness and understanding

Disclosure of criminal records is an important issue of relevance for all children, young people and professionals involved in Scotland's youth and criminal justice system. It's also a key issue for those working with looked after children and care leavers, however, the current system is poorly understood by employers, professionals and young people themselves.

At this event, invited speakers will provide an overview of the current system to raise awareness, understanding, and highlight areas of challenge. There will also be opportunities to delve into potential options for systems change, as well as hear information on the forthcoming PVG review.

Participants will have space to discuss and reflect on the information shared, as well as to identify other opportunities to support professionals working in these fields, in respect of disclosure.

We're delighted to confirm that Bruce Adamson, Commissioner for Children and Young People in Scotland, will be chairing the event.

Other speakers include:

  • Malcolm Schaffer, Head of Practice and Policy, Scottish Children's Reporter Administration
  • Boyd McAdam, National Convenor and Chief Executive, Children's Hearings Scotland
  • Clan Childlaw
  • Disclosure Scotland

Is it for me?

If you're involved in or work with Scotland's youth and criminal justice system, this event is for you. We're keen to involve Children's Hearings System Area Convenors, advocates, members of the legal profession, professionals from education, residential child care and Scottish Government policy makers.

About the organisers

The event will be delivered in partnership with CYCJ (Centre for Youth and Criminal Justice) and CELCIS, in association with the Scottish Care Leavers Covenant.
