Highlights of the SIRCC 2018 conference

Did you miss out on this year's SIRCC conference? Join us for our first SIRCC Spotlight event where we'll be showcasing some of the highlights of our conference for residential child care. Highlights include:

  • Key excerpts of the keynote presentations from Laura Steckley, Ruth Emond and Dr Michael Smith
  • A choice of interactive conference workshops for you to attend
  • Discussion sessions, exploring themes raised during the conference

You'll also have a chance to consider the 'Call for Workshops' for the SIRCC 2019 conference, where we'll be celebrating 20 years of the event. If you'd like to apply to present at next year's conference, the CELCIS team will be there to offer guidance and support, or simply talk through your ideas.

Animal magic: enhancing compassionate and nurturing care
Join us as we share some of the messages from looked after children that animals in their lives is important to them. We'll link these messages to the health and social care standards, in particular, the principle of compassion. We'll also explore some of the research and evidence that, for many looked after children, contact with animals provides something special and magical, in addition to human interaction.

This will be an interactive session, and will include footage of young people with pets and animals. They'll describe the difference these animals make and we'll be joined by our Young Inspector Volunteers who will broaden the discussion.
Presenter(s): Mary Morris, Gemma Watson, Young Inspector Volunteers, Care Inspectorate
