Would you like to tell us about Continuing Care?

If you have care experience, and are age 12-26, influence change by taking part in an interview to tell us what you know about Continuing Care.

Continuing Care is where young people stay with carers in foster care, kinship care or residential care, up to the age of 21, if that’s the right thing for them.

We know that when it works well, continuing care really helps young people, but everyone’s experiences can be different.

We are also interested in meeting with pre-existing participation groups, such as champions boards or care experience forums, for an interactive session.

Everyone who takes part will receive a £10 voucher.

We need to hear from you!

We are asking young people with care experience to share their thoughts, experiences, and views of Continuing Care, so that together we can help to influence change and make things better for everyone.

We are asking questions such as:

  • Has Continuing Care ever been discussed with you?
  • Do you know what your rights are to Continuing Care?
  • What support did you need as you became more independent?
  • Perhaps you recognise the support you’ve had but not the word ‘Continuing Care’?
  • If you are under 18, when do you think you should be able to have a conversation about Continuing Care with someone you trust?
  • And if you have experience Continuing Care, what would you like to tell us about your experience of this?

And we also want to hear what you think about the recommendations made from the research we did in 2022.

Brandi Lee and Robert (the Research Team), will be running a number of interactive sessions aimed at young people aged 12 – 26. These sessions will have games and activities to help you share your views.

If you choose to take part

To register your interest or to ask any questions you may have, please email celcis.cc@strath.ac.uk, or text 07967 339 359. We’ll get back to you with details and dates for the sessions.

Everyone who takes part in the research will be anonymous. If you want, you can choose a name you would like to be used next to any quotes we might use.

Background

Research was published in 2022 by CELCIS - ‘Continuing Care: An exploration of implementation’. This research:

  • Told a story of how Continuing Care is used and works across Scotland.
  • Looked at enablers and challenges in supporting children and young people as they move into adulthood.
  • Gave recommendations which covered what needs to change and builds on the good things already taking place.
  • Highlights where improvements are needed to make sure Continuing Care is supported consistently and properly across the whole of Scotland.
