Harmful sexual behaviours by children

Year: 2021
Topic: Harmful sexual behaviour
Author: Kristina Moodie

This report, by the Children and Young People's Centre for Justice (CYCJ), aimed to examine any links between childhood experiences and harmful sexual behaviours (HSB) and, if links were detected, to illustrate potential patterns of childhood experiences and HSB.

The report concluded that for children who display HSB, there is clear evidence of neglect and abuse, and that their childhoods are characterised by parental separation, domestic violence, parents with additional needs and frequent places to live. However, there appear to be few identifiable risks that would indicate a child is going to display HSB specifically.
