Thinking critically about adolescent neglect
This free online session is the first in our Learning About Neglect event series for child protection leaders and practitioners across Scotland.
Focusing on thinking critically about adolescent neglect, the session will offer attendees the opportunity to:
- Listen to and develop their understanding of key research messages about how young people can experience neglect, and the impact it can have on them
- Explore issues of stigma, shame and inequality, and what this means for practice
- Consider the importance of critical thinking when working with families where neglect is a factor
- Reflect on the strengths and development needs for current practice
Our speaker for the session is Dez Holmes, Director of Research in Practice. Dez is responsible for the overall leadership of Research in Practice, who work with organisations to enable them to access, understand and apply evidence in their work with children and families, young people and adults. She is interested in knowledge mobilisation, systems leadership, adolescence, safeguarding and participative practice.
Learning About Neglect event series
CPCScotland, with support from CELCIS and Scottish Government, is delivering a series of free, online learning events from March to June 2022. Across four webinars, child protection leaders and practitioners across Scotland will have opportunities to engage with key speakers and organisations on child neglect and practice.
An area of development identified initially through the Child Protection Improvement Programme, and more recently within the National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland, these learning events will stimulate conversation and raise awareness nationally about the impact of neglect on young people. Attendees will have an opportunity to gain further insight into good practice and approaches that will benefit their own learning and practice.
