How to build a great residential child care manager

What does it take to be a great manager in residential child care?

The Promise stresses the central importance of the character and values for everyone employed in the residential child care workforce. We also know from what children and young people in care tell us, and from other research, that having a strong, positive manager in a care setting is essential to ensure children have the best experiences and opportunities possible.

Alongside characters and values, what other factors make a great manager? What parts do professional identity, learning and development, and experience play?

The content of this page is from a SIRCC 2021 Online webinar that explored this theme. We heard from speakers with care experience, residential workers, senior managers, and learning and development professionals, and this was followed by a live panel session where attendees had the opportunity to reflect, comment, and join the conversation.
