Latest statistics on looked after children in Scotland 2014-15

Scottish Government official statistics about children and young people who are looked after by Scottish local authorities were published today - 22 March 2016. These figures highlight some interesting trends about looked after children and children on the child protection register: 

  • 15,404 children are looked after for this year - a reduction for the third year in a row.
     
  • 2,751 children are on the child protection register – down 4 per cent since 2014 but 38 per cent higher than in 2001. Roughly one third of children on the register are also looked after.
     
  • 84 young people are living in secure care. 

This data was collected from 1 August 2014 to 31 July 2015.
