This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the CELCIS Protecting Children programme supporting the improvement of child protection within the context of GIRFEC in Scotland.

About you

Can you bring the passion and motivation to support systemic and strategic changes in processes, procedures, policy, planning and practice, carrying out a number of crucial functions in order to support Child Protection Committees (CPCs) to identify and manage the risk to children and young people, and to monitor and improve performance? We are looking for someone who can work alongside key stakeholders to support the delivery of the national Child Protection Improvement Programme (CPIP) and support the work of Child Protection Committees Scotland (CPCS) in delivering the revised National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland (2021). Do you have significant experience of Child Protection practice and strong knowledge of the sector and workforces responsible for supporting ‘looked after’ children in Scotland? If so, this could be the role for you.

About the role

This role provides professional support to CPCS and its sub-groups with a view to making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people. The successful applicant will support the work of Child Protection Committees Scotland and the wider Child Protection activities of CELCIS. This role provides professional support to this important national forum and its sub-groups with a view to making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people in need of care and protection. Additionally, this post has a key role in the delivery of the recommendations of the national Child Protection Improvement Programme (CPIP).

You will work with key strategic stakeholders including Child Protection Committee chairs, and colleagues in social work, health, education, Police Scotland, the Third Sector and in the Scottish Government to promote efficient and effective child protection policy and procedures which increase consistency and reduce duplication of effort to improve support and outcomes for children and young people, and ensure that the work of CELCIS’s Child Protection programme is underpinned by research and evidence-based practice to influence policy and guidance at a local and national level.

Qualifications and experience

You will have a relevant degree and/or appropriate professional qualification and relevant experience in the appropriate field, and a relevant postgraduate qualification. You will have significant knowledge and experience of the children`s sector relating to child protection practice and processes and a strong track record in defining, implementing, and evaluating successful interventions/ programmes, with experience of leading project teams, and demonstrable project management skills to meet strategic policy goals across a diverse and complex environment.

The post is funded for 12 months, with a further year of funding indicated by Scottish Government at this stage.
