Laura joins CELCIS from working as a social worker at Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership, and has 12 years’ experience working in children and families and fostering and adoption services. She also has experience of supporting families in a community addiction team.

To Come

Amy has a background in children’s residential care, supporting children with ASD and additional support needs. She has worked in the sector for over 10 years and more specifically within learning and development for the last 5 years. Her role at CELCIS is to help coordinate and manage the events that are hosted for workers across the children’s care sector.

Joe comes to CELCIS with a background of almost 30 years in local authority work with children, young people and families, including youth work, groupwork, child protection practice and training. He is particularly interested in supporting the development of best practice in child protection and safeguarding and use of evidence and innovation to achieve positive change. A keen music fan and gig goer who also enjoys playing guitar and gigging himself, as well as exploring the great outdoors – when the Scottish weather permits!

Georgina provides admin support across the CELCIS Hubs including CPC Scotland, Virtual School Head Teachers, and the internationally renowned Scottish Journal for Residential Child Care. A qualified site safety officer with executive assistant and governance experience, Georgina has a background in business support with the Ministry of Defence and in a Hospice. Outside of work Georgina is a bibliotherapist, using a love of reading to coach people to understand themselves better and improve mental health.

Jane Scott has over 35 years’ experience in research and practice development in the field of child care and protection with a particular interest in the recognition and responses to child neglect. She has worked within government departments in Scotland and England, for several universities in research and teaching roles, and independently undertaken practice reviews, including Significant Care Reviews and Learning Reviews, research studies and practice evaluations for a range of public, statutory and third sector organisations. This has allowed Jane to work alongside children, young people and families, frontline staff and managers, and strategic leaders. At CELCIS, Jane heads up the Early Help and Protection hub which has a particular focus on early help, children’s hearings system and protecting children.

Katherine is the Policy Implementation Lead at CELCIS.

She has worked in various policy roles in the third and public sector, including with Children in Scotland and Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council (EVOC), alongside a role as the Third Sector Advisor to the Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) team at Scottish Government.

Her background is in youth work, having changed careers after gaining a degree in Immunology. Prior to working in policy, Katherine worked with children and young people in different roles, in particular a project with Barnardo’s to support care experienced young people into employment or further education.

Katherine has a master’s degree in Community Education where she researched care experience and employment opportunities.

When not working, she enjoys anything in the outdoors: going up Munro’s, swimming and going along to a very muddy outside exercise class every week.

Deborah is a Children’s Services Implementation Consultant at CELCIS. She is a qualified children and families’ social worker with 20 years’ experience of working in child protection and early help and preventative work. Deborah is also an experienced Solihull Approach Trainer. Deborah believes that all children, young people and their families deserve the opportunity to be equal partners in how services that support them are shaped. She also believes that empathy, compassion, valuing each other’s differences and believing in other’s potential should be at the heart of everything we do. When not working, Deborah enjoys squeezing in a bit of running and general exercise, keeping up with friends & family from near, far and wide and listening to anything from early 90’s house anthems to Scottish folk music or Radio 6.

Craig is passionate about creating systems where individuals can fulfil their potential and designing collaborative spaces for people to work together to explore complex problems.

A Community Learning and Development practitioner, with a background in Sociology, Theology, and Media Studies, Craig has experience of working in complex systems through community work, international development, and in social care contexts where his work has spanned Throughcare, advocacy, national participation programs, and complex change work.

As Participation Practice Lead at CELCIS, Craig is responsible for leading the planning and delivery of approaches to strengthen meaningful engagement of people with lived experience of care and children’s services, working alongside partners to create the spaces for this to be realised. 

A self-identified ‘slow thinking introvert’, Craig values working with complexity, purpose, and through relationships.  He focuses on creating the right conditions for meaningful change and making sense of challenges through active listening and critical thinking.

Sharon joined the CELCIS redress team as a Research Associate to work on the consultation with victims and survivors of historic child abuse in Scotland. Previously, she worked on various university and NHS funded research projects, and on research connected with the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry to help chart the development of care services in Scotland between 1900 and 2014. Sharon is also a graduate member of the British Psychological Society with an interest in the psychology of coaching. In her spare time, Sharon can often be found on the side-lines watching her son and husband playing rugby or supporting her national side at Murrayfield or on TV!

Kirsty is CELCIS' resident legal eagle. She comes from a local authority and government background where she specialised in looked after children, child protection, and permanence, both in practice and in policy. She helped to deliver, and latterly led on, the PACE Programme which supported Councils and their partners to make improvements to the processes they use to secure permanent homes for looked after children. She was also part of the CELCIS team that produced the 'Staying Together and Connected' guidance to support the rights of brothers and sisters for the Scottish Government. A big am dram fan, Kirsty's appeared on stage in the Edinburgh Festival and in musicals. She can act and sing a wee bit, but says please don't ask her to dance.

Emma has worked as a speech and language therapist for many years, specialising in autism. She has worked as a Speechie in a range of contexts, from the big blue skies of remote and regional Australia to a vibrant inner city Manchester. More recently, she was involved in the implementation of the Scottish Strategy for Autism, sitting on the National Governance Group. She currently works as part of the Protecting Children Programme team and is enjoying applying Active Implementation methodology to support whole systems change, in order to address neglect and enhance wellbeing. Emma enjoys going for a good stomp and discovering new bands at local venues.
