Child Protection and the Global Risk: understanding the prevalence of online child sexual exploitation and abuse across the world

At the end of May, the release of a new global index on data about child sexual exploitation and abuse revealed that 12% of the world's children have been victims of online sexual abuse and exploitation. This is an opportunity to hear from researchers at Childlight – the Global Child Safety Institute based at the University of Edinburgh behind this work - who will present findings from this first ever global index, Into the Light, on the prevalence of online offending against children.

We will hear what the index outlines about the global and regional prevalence of child sexual exploitation and abuse and the magnitude and scale of child sexual abuse material online, and what the researchers found in the data to inform approaches to preventing and tackling abuse.

Join us for this seventh webinar in this Emerging Insight Series on 13 August when the speaker will be Deborah Fry, Professor of International Child Protection Research at the University of Edinburgh and the Director of Data for Childlight who will be joined in discussion by colleagues Michael Salter, Professor of Criminology at the University of New South Wales in Australia and Director of UNSW Childlight and James Stevenson, Researcher at the University of Edinburgh. There will also be space for questions.
