Beginning in March 2022 Child Protection Committees Scotland, with support from CELCIS and Scottish Government, delivered a series of free, online webinars and podcasts in which child protection leaders and practitioners discussed aspects of child neglect with key speakers and organisations.

In this webinar Julie Falconer and Heather Rush of City of Edinburgh's Family Group Decision Making Service focussed on unborn babies and young infants.
Julie and Heather are passionate about their work with Family Group Decision Making as a way of holding risk, addressing concerns, including neglect, and building upon existing strengths in partnership with families and professionals.

Addressing neglect and enhancing wellbeing
This webinar was all about addressing neglect and enhancing wellbeing and the role of GIRFEC in responding to the needs of families. It was led by Emma Hanley of CELCIS, Nicola Weryk of Camperdown Primary School and Aaron Brown of Hill View Nursery, both in Dundee. Attendees heard about CELCIS’ Addressing Neglect and Enhancing Wellbeing (ANEW) Programme, which was funded by the Scottish Government.

The webinar focused on adolescent neglect, providing an opportunity for attendees to:
- Reflect on what we know about adolescent neglect – including findings from research that took innovative approaches to measuring neglect.
- Look at learning from currently available research and evaluation on how to respond.
- Consider the findings from studies on wider topics that can inform improvements in safeguarding.

Working with families where engagement is a challenge: a trauma-informed approach
This webinar focussed on working with families where neglect is a concern and services are struggling to engage with them. Attendees heard from Neil Whettam, Public Protection Learning and Development Advisor at Clackmannanshire and Stirling Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), and Shumela Ahmed, Managing Director at Resilience Learning Partnership, to learn about an approach and tool – the Trauma Ready Reckoner tool – that has been developed by Clackmannanshire and Stirling HSCP.

Exploring the complexities and challenges of dental neglect for children and young people
The webinar explored some of the professional dilemmas, the preventative approaches, and how we can take a trauma-informed approach to facilitating access to treatment and interventions. It also discussed dental neglect and the impact it has the wider context and concerns that services may have regarding a child.

This webinar focussed on a strengths-based approach to working with children and families in Glasgow City. The webinar explored how Glasgow's approach evolved and was reflecting The Promise and getting it right for every child (GIRFEC), by focussing on improving support and early help to children and families, which is trauma informed and attuned to the context of poverty and unmet need.

This webinar focussed on the challenges of working with children and their families who may be absent from school for a variety of reasons and who may be at risk of neglect and requiring support, but not visible to services.
